KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom has completed the first phase of restoration work on its fiber network in the Rasuwagadhi, Betrawati, and Trishuli areas following damage caused by floods on Aug. 26. The floods destroyed two optical line terminals, five fiber distribution cabinets, and approximately 128 kilometers of aerial optical fiber cable.
The disaster completely disrupted a total of 1,544 fiber-to-the-home lines in the region. Following the incident, Nepal Telecom mobilized technical personnel and resources to accelerate repair and restoration efforts. The company confirmed that 1,093 of the affected lines have been successfully brought back into operation, marking the completion of the first phase of recovery.
The remaining lines will be restored gradually based on the geographical conditions of the affected areas, technical feasibility, and customer demand, according to the company. Nepal Telecom stated that it remains committed to providing quality telecommunications services to its customers despite the challenging circumstances caused by the natural disaster. The company also expressed its gratitude to customers for their patience and trust during the service outage.
