KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to import 160 bullets of cooking gas daily starting tomorrow to address the ongoing supply shortage in the market. Minister for Industry Deepak Sah stated that the Indian side has agreed to the request to increase the volume of imports.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Minister Sah said, ‘To resolve the gas shortage problem in the market, we must supply as much as possible immediately. From tomorrow, 160 bullets of gas will be imported. The gas problem will be resolved gradually within a week.’
The minister visited the Nepal Oil Corporation to assess the current demand and supply situation. Following his instructions to increase supply, the corporation has written to the Indian Oil Corporation to facilitate the increased imports. Previously, Nepal was importing approximately 100 bullets of gas daily.
The disruption in gas supply followed road damage at Krishnabhir caused by flooding in the Trishuli River on Sept. 26 and Sept. 30. Currently, gas is being refilled at depots in Makwanpur, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Bara, and Parsa, and transported to the market via alternative routes using trucks.
