KATHMANDU: Nepal welcomed 85,444 international visitor arrivals (IVAs) in August 2026, a 3.6 percent decline compared with the same month last year.
India remained Nepal’s largest source market, accounting for 26,373 visitors, or 30.87 percent of total arrivals. China followed with 10,304 visitors (12.06 percent), while Sri Lanka recorded 8,710 visitors (10.19 percent).
The United States was the fourth-largest market with 6,293 visitors, representing 7.37 percent of total arrivals, followed by Bangladesh with 4,487 visitors (5.25 percent).
Regionally, South Asian markets continued to dominate Nepal’s international tourism arrivals, contributing 48.5 percent of the total. Other Asian markets accounted for 21.4 percent, followed by Europe at 12.7 percent and the Americas at 8.7 percent.
Oceania contributed 3 percent of arrivals, while the Middle East accounted for 1.2 percent and Africa 0.4 percent. Other markets made up 4.1 percent.
Despite the year-on-year decline in August arrivals, Nepal’s tourism industry continues to attract visitors from a broadening range of international markets. The figures underscore the importance of strengthening traditional markets while expanding Nepal’s reach in emerging destinations.
Nepal is positioning itself internationally as a destination built around distinctive, high-value travel experiences, with the long-term ambition of establishing the country as a “Lifetime Experiences Destination.”
