KATHMANDU: The internal dispute within the Nepali Congress appears to be moving toward a resolution following a central executive committee meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa on Sunday. The committee decided to integrate dissident leaders into the party structure, signaling a potential end to the ongoing deadlock.

The committee decided to nominate leaders who were elected as central members or office bearers during the 14th General Convention into the current central committee and include them in the general convention organizing committee without discrimination. Party Joint General Secretary Yogendra Chaudhary stated that the leadership is showing maximum flexibility to ensure party unity and a smooth 15th General Convention. He extended an open invitation for dissident leaders to join the central leadership and participate in the convention process with dignity.

Previously, the committee decided to allow members who renewed their active membership by Dec. 25 but had not updated their digital records to participate in the convention. Committee member Pratima Gautam stated that the decision was made to strengthen the party. Dissident leader Ramhari Khatiwada welcomed the move, emphasizing the need for unity. Another leader, Shyam Ghimire, noted that since the dissident group’s 8-point demand has been addressed, there is no reason not to return to the mainstream.

However, the faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed dissatisfaction. Leader Prakash Sharan Mahat described the proposal as belated and stated they are not interested in positions just days before the convention. He argued that since the matter is sub-judice and the current political course is different, returning to Sanepa is not feasible. The Deuba faction has demanded that the convention be postponed to allow for serious political negotiations.
