KATHMANDU: The new Central Working Committee elected during the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress will formally assume responsibility for party operations today.
A special ceremony is scheduled for 2 pm at the party’s central office, BP Smriti Bhawan, in Sanepa, Lalitpur, where newly elected office bearers and members will take their oaths.
According to the Central Election Committee, all newly elected officials and central members will be sworn in, with the exception of party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, who already took his oath of office on Oct. 17.
Election Committee member secretary Advocate Raju Katuwal stated that the swearing-in ceremony will follow a different format than previous years and will include the distribution of certificates and formal induction of the new leadership.
The final results of the 15th General Convention, held in Kathmandu from Oct. 4 to Oct. 9, were officially released on Oct. 16. The election involved 7,392 voters across 229 positions, with approximately 162,000 ballot papers counted. Officials noted that the counting process was completed in one week, compared to the 12 days required for 4,700 voters during the 14th General Convention.
Gagan Thapa was elected president with 94 percent of the vote. Other key appointments include Bishwaprakash Sharma as senior vice president, and Dr. Chandrakant Bhandari, Madhu Acharya, Pushpa Bhusal, and Binod Chaudhary as vice presidents.
