KATHMANDU: The Nepali folk-rock band Nepathya performed to a large audience at The Agenda in Dubai’s Internet City on Sunday. The concert drew significant attendance from the Nepali community residing in the region.
Shree Lamichhane of the organizing team, Easy Group, described the event as a new benchmark for Nepali concerts in Dubai, citing the technical arrangements and audience participation. Shahbaz Omar, head of the production department at The Agenda, noted that the band’s performance provided a grand start to their event season.
Lead singer Amrit Gurung opened the show with the song ‘Koshi ko Pani’ and concluded the performance with ‘Rato ra Chandra Surya’. During the concert, Gurung spoke to the audience about Nepal’s natural beauty and the challenges faced by Nepalis working abroad, encouraging them to support their homeland.
The event also featured Atif Aslam from Lahore, Pakistan, who won a local competition by recording a cover of a Nepathya song. He was given the opportunity to meet Gurung personally. Attendees traveled from various parts of the Emirates, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, to witness the show.
Gurung was accompanied on stage by Dhruva Lama on drums, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on guitar, and Dineshraj Regmi on keyboards.
Following the Dubai event, the band is scheduled to perform at the Lab School grounds in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on Saturday, Oct. 24. According to the band’s management, Nepalaya, upcoming tour dates include performances in Sikkim, India, six cities in Nepal, and a series of concerts in Australia.
