RUPANDEHI: The bodies of nine people who were swept away by the flood in the Bhotekoshi River and ended up in India have been handed over to Nepal by Indian security agencies.
The bodies, found in the Khadda and Padrauna police station areas of Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, India, were taken to Nepal via the Sunauli border and delivered to the Belahiya Area Police Office in Rupandehi.
The Indian police brought five bodies on Tuesday evening and four more this afternoon. Among the bodies brought to Nepal are four of women, including a young girl, and five men.
After completing necessary procedures in Belahiya, the bodies were sent to Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal.
According to Sub-Inspector at the Khadda Police Station, Sanjiv Kumar Maurya, the bodies were found along the riverbank near Madanpur Sukrauli area, close to Thokkar No. 3 of the Narayani River.
He added the location is about 35 kilometers away from the Gandak dam area on the Nepal-India border.
Among the four bodies brought on Wednesday, there is a girl aged 9-12, a woman aged 35-40, a man aged 40-45, and a young man aged 23-28 with ‘Dasharath Jangge’ written on his right hand.
According to Magistrate at Padrauna Police Station, Devendra Kumar Yadav, post-mortem of bodies was conducted at AIIMS hospital in Gorakhpur, India.
He informed that evidence, including DNA, was preserved from the bodies.
