KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has declared that he will not step down from his position. During a central committee meeting held on Monday, Oli presented a political report in which he firmly rejected calls for leadership changes and party reorganization.
Oli stated that he would not abandon the party during a period of crisis. While noting his willingness to listen to internal criticism regarding party policies, working styles, and decision-making processes, he expressed strong objection to language that borders on character assassination, particularly comments targeting his health, age, and past struggles.
He described the current push for leadership replacement as untimely. Addressing the calls for his resignation following election defeats, he argued that taking moral responsibility does not mean leaving the organization in chaos. He emphasized that his current stance is intended to maintain organizational stability and ensure a secure political transition rather than serving personal interests.
Regarding the debate over generational transition, Oli warned that a hasty handover without institutional preparation would create a significant leadership vacuum. Using the metaphor of a tree, he argued that new shoots cannot grow without the roots, suggesting that the party requires both experience and energy. He concluded that generational transition should be viewed as a link of continuity rather than a cause for division, effectively dismissing any possibility of his resignation.
