KATHMANDU: Palpa district recorded the highest rainfall in the country over the past 24 hours, with the Baldyanggadhi station measuring 161 millimeters of precipitation.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the data was updated on Thursday at 2:45 p.m., confirming heavy rainfall in Palpa and surrounding areas. Earlier, at 1:43 p.m., the department reported that the Gaindakot station in Palpa had recorded 11.6 millimeters of rain within a single hour.
The monsoon remains active across the country. The Meteorological Forecasting Division stated that light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder, is occurring in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Rainfall is also continuing in select areas of Lumbini and Madhesh provinces. Meteorological maps indicate that the impact of the rain is most significant in the central and western hilly regions, as well as some parts of the Terai.
The department has categorized the 161-millimeter rainfall as heavy. It has warned that this level of precipitation poses a risk of flooding in small streams and landslides on vulnerable, steep slopes. As the rainy conditions are expected to persist, the department has urged residents living in riverine areas and landslide-prone zones to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
