KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) spokesperson Jagadish Kharel has stated that the prime minister should effectively represent Nepal’s position on climate justice during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. Speaking to journalists following an all-party meeting on Wednesday, Kharel emphasized that Nepal must clearly present the damages and challenges caused by climate change to the international community.

Leaders from various political parties participating in the meeting suggested that the prime minister prioritize the issue of climate justice at the UN assembly.

‘The prime minister is attending the United Nations General Assembly. Important leaders have discussed what kind of voice should be raised on behalf of Nepal on the global stage, viewed through the lens of climate justice,’ Kharel said.

The meeting highlighted the need to raise issues regarding the losses Nepal is suffering due to climate change, the affected communities, and the necessity for international support.

Kharel noted that the government and the ruling RSP have taken matters related to climate justice seriously. The meeting concluded that the government would adopt the approach of clearly presenting Nepal’s problems and demands on the international platform.

Additionally, Kharel mentioned that leaders and representatives from participating parties thanked RSP chair Rabi Lamichhane for his initiative in organizing the all-party meeting and the political mechanism.
