KATHMANDU: Regular international flights between Pokhara and Dubai have officially commenced. Flydubai launched the service on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone for Pokhara International Airport.
The inaugural flight, operated by a Boeing 737, arrived in Pokhara at 6:19 p.m. local time, carrying 113 passengers. The aircraft departed for its return journey to Dubai the same evening with 152 passengers on board. Airport authorities confirmed that the return manifest included 149 economy class passengers and three business class passengers, following a last-minute cancellation.
Navaraj Shahi, Flydubai’s general manager for Nepal, stated that advance ticket bookings are currently open for the next three months. He noted that the long-term viability of the route will be evaluated following a six-month trial period. The frequency of the flights will be determined by passenger demand.
Local authorities and tourism stakeholders, including the Pokhara Metropolitan City and the Nepal Tourism Board, welcomed the arrival of the first flight. The incoming group included the Nepali Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Tej Bahadur Chhetri. Members of the musical band Kandara were also among the arrivals and were presented with traditional gifts by the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) Gandaki Chapter.
Tourism leaders believe the direct connectivity will link Pokhara to over 200 global cities, potentially attracting major international airlines to the region. To support the launch, local tourism entrepreneurs have introduced promotional offers, including complimentary accommodation and paragliding sessions for visitors arriving via the new route.
