KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 29 individuals from various locations across Nepal for possession of illegal drugs. The arrests were made during a series of operations conducted on Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and cash.
In the Kathmandu Valley, authorities apprehended eight individuals with 148.76 grams of brown heroin, Rs 320,000 in cash, and five weighing scales. The operation was led by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Koteshwor. Separately, in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6, police arrested 52-year-old Kumari Rai after discovering approximately 1 kilogram of marijuana and Rs 19,900 in her hotel.
In Sunsari, two people were arrested in Dharan with 5.28 grams of a substance resembling brown sugar, along with their scooter. Another operation in Itahari resulted in the arrest of six individuals with 1.71 grams of brown heroin and Rs 16,455 in cash. In Morang, 71-year-old Gopal Mandal was arrested with 1.564 kilograms of marijuana, alongside four others who were allegedly attempting to purchase the drug.
Police in Parsa arrested two individuals in Birgunj with 154 grams of brown heroin and seized their motorcycle. In Banke, 24-year-old Nadim Rai, a resident of India, was intercepted in Nepalgunj with 103.79 grams of brown heroin while entering Nepal on a motorcycle.
Additional arrests were reported in Jhapa, where one person was held with 910 milligrams of a brown sugar-like substance; in Bhojpur, where two people were arrested for possessing Tramadol and Dicyclomine tablets; and in Rupandehi, where one individual was taken into custody with various ampoules of controlled substances. Authorities are continuing investigations into all cases across the respective districts.
