Police arrest 29 people for drug possession across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 29 individuals across various locations in Nepal over the past 24 hours for possession of illegal narcotics.

The arrests were made during separate operations conducted in districts including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Morang, Makwanpur, Kailali, Bardiya, Banke, and Sunsari.

In Kathmandu, authorities arrested 27-year-old Bikram Gurung with 28.5 grams of brown heroin and Rs 700,000 in cash in Chandragiri. Further investigation led to the arrest of 50-year-old Priya Bhujel, a West Bengal native, who was found with 182 grams of heroin. Additionally, 19-year-old Rohit Gupta was apprehended in Dakshinkali with 2.36 grams of heroin during a vehicle check.

Significant quantities of narcotics were also seized in Makwanpur. Eight people were arrested in Hetauda and Manahari for possession of heroin and Tramadol. In Hetauda-1, 33-year-old Umesh Thing and others were detained with heroin, a digital scale, and Rs 11,000 in cash.

In Bara, police arrested 45-year-old Ait Singh Jimba and his 45-year-old wife, Roshani Rai, with 2.97 kilograms of opium. Meanwhile, in Lalitpur, an 18-year-old was arrested with 2.62 kilograms of pollen and 1.09 kilograms of cannabis.

Other operations resulted in the arrest of three individuals in Morang for brown sugar possession, five in Kailali for heroin and brown sugar, two in Bardiya, two in Banke, two in Bhaktapur for Tramadol, and two in Sunsari for possession of Tramadol and Spaspen. Police also confiscated several scooters and digital scales used by the suspects during these operations.
