KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Bishwa Mani Subedi, a journalist with Nepal Press, from his office in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu, for questioning over a news report concerning Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki.

An officer at the Valley Crime Investigation Office said Subedi was detained on the basis of a letter from the Cyber Bureau. Bureau officials said he was arrested for questioning about a report published by Nepal Press claiming that the government was seeking to remove Karki from his post and that the police chief had begun legal consultations.

Police also arrested another journalist, Shobha Raj Baral, on the same day. The arrests of the two journalists have raised concerns in the media sector.
