KATHMANDU: Nepal is expected to experience rain and strong winds across many parts of the country over the next three days, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
A low-pressure system originating from the Bay of Bengal has moved through northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha in India, triggering increased rainfall activity across the region.
Meteorologist David Dhakal stated that while there is no cause for extreme alarm, the public should remain updated with weather reports. Currently, cloud cover persists from the Karnali region to the eastern parts of the country, with ongoing rain in Gandaki, Lumbini, Bagmati, Koshi, and Madhesh provinces. Over the past 24 hours, areas surrounding Palpa, Arghakhanchi, and Kapilvastu recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall, reaching up to 164 millimeters.
Today, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, with potential gusty winds in some Terai areas. Weather conditions are expected to intensify on Friday, with a high risk of heavy snowfall in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, requiring special precautions.
By Saturday, the weather system is expected to shift westward. Meteorologists have forecast increased rainfall in various areas from Gandaki westward, alongside heavy snowfall in the mountainous regions of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant as the meteorological department continues to monitor the low-pressure system and provide regular updates.
