KATHMANDU: Rainfall intensity has significantly decreased across Nepal as the low-pressure system previously active in India has weakened into a low-pressure area.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported that the weather began to improve from Saturday evening, leading to a reduction in widespread heavy rainfall. Despite this, the monsoon remains active, and localized rain is expected to continue. As of 8 p.m. Sunday, light rain was reported in a few areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. The highest recorded rainfall in the past hour was 6.4 millimeters at the Garbha Durbar station in Kailali.
The department forecasts that tonight, some areas in the hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces may experience moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Similar conditions are expected in a few locations across the hilly and mountainous belts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Additionally, moderate rain with thunder is possible in parts of the Terai in Sudurpashchim, and one or two locations across the Terai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces. Heavy rain is specifically possible in one or two hilly areas of Sudurpashchim province.
The country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, westerly winds, and a low-pressure area positioned near Uttar Pradesh, India. The monsoon trough is currently located near its normal position, away from Nepal.
