KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted increased rainfall on Friday, with weather conditions across the country expected to improve gradually from Saturday. The department has urged the public to remain alert due to the possibility of heavy rain in some provinces.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane stated that Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces recorded the most rainfall over the past 24 hours. On Thursday afternoon, there is a 50 to 80 percent chance of light to moderate rain in hilly regions. The hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, along with the Terai regions of Madhesh and Koshi, face a 10 to 30 percent probability of rainfall.

On Friday, light to moderate rain is expected in parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. The department has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for the hilly regions of Koshi and Bagmati and certain areas in Sudurpashchim due to the risk of heavy rainfall. According to Lamichhane, the yellow alert signifies a need for caution and preparation. Weather conditions are expected to begin improving from the western region starting Friday night.

By Saturday afternoon, only isolated light rain is expected in the hilly regions of Koshi and Bagmati, as well as in parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. The department predicts that weather across the country will fully improve by Saturday night, with no further rainfall expected. However, there is a possibility of light snowfall in the high mountainous areas of Koshi and Bagmati. No weather warnings have been issued for Saturday.

Lamichhane added, ‘Although rainfall activity will increase on Friday, the weather will gradually clear up from Saturday, so I urge everyone to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins.’ The department has advised the public to follow its official website and social media channels for continuous updates, noting that weather patterns remain subject to change.
