KARNALI: Recent snowfall in the higher regions of Karnali has significantly impacted daily life, particularly in the districts of Humla, Mugu, Jumla, Dolpa, and Kalikot.
Areas such as Shey Phoksundo, Dolpo Buddha, and Charka Tangsong in Dolpa, along with Namkha in Humla and various local municipalities in Mugu, Jumla, and Kalikot, have reported snowfall.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, the Chief District Officer of Dolpa announced a ban on hikers in Upper Dolpa since October 29, emphasizing the need to monitor the safety of those already in the area.
To mitigate potential disaster risks, a command post meeting was convened, involving coordination among various agencies, including the District Emergency Operation Center and local security and health services, to prepare for rescue and relief efforts.
In Mugu, ongoing moderate rain has raised concerns about landslides, prompting police deployment to halt traffic. However, communication issues have been reported, complicating coordination efforts.
In Humla, snowfall has led to road closures, particularly affecting access to Hilsa and Limi in Namkha village.
Local authorities are taking measures to ensure the safety of residents in high-risk areas, preparing for search and rescue operations as necessary.
