KATHMANDU: Resham Lal Chaudhary, founder and patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has criticized both established and new political leaders, stating that the current generation has failed to show any signs of building the nation. He made these remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
Speaking at an event held at Khula Manch, Chaudhary questioned the working style of leaders across the political spectrum. He remarked that while older leaders with grey hair were responsible for the country’s past decline, the younger generation with black hair has also failed to demonstrate any potential to improve the nation. He argued that the country cannot progress through extremism from either side and expressed hope that the middle-aged generation might be capable of bringing positive change.
Addressing the gathering, which included Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane, Chaudhary called for an end to political vendettas, specifically criticizing the practice of sending leaders elected by popular vote to jail. He described such actions as a form of political retaliation that must cease.
Furthermore, Chaudhary highlighted the grievances of the Tharu community, which constitutes 6.7 percent of the national population. He stated that the community remains excluded from high-level state positions. In light of this, he demanded that the historic town of Tikapur be declared a separate district immediately.
