KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti has demanded that the government make search, rescue and relief operations more effective in areas affected by the Bhote Koshi floods. Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, he stated that it is essential to intensify ongoing efforts by deploying additional personnel, equipment and necessary resources.

Burlakoti requested the government to ensure that verified details regarding missing, rescued and deceased individuals are regularly communicated down to the ward level. He further emphasized the need to provide direct information to the families of disaster victims. He called for the immediate mobilization of skilled personnel and appropriate mechanisms to accelerate the search and rescue operations.

Regarding post-disaster reconstruction, Burlakoti cautioned against constructing settlements, public offices or other infrastructure in areas prone to floods and landslides in the future. He stated, “The search and rescue work should be intensified with the arrangement of mechanisms, equipment and skilled manpower. Regarding post-disaster reconstruction, settlements, public offices and structures should not be built in risk-prone areas like flood and landslide zones in the coming days.”
