KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order regarding a habeas corpus petition filed for businessman Deepak Bhatt. A single bench of judge Meghraj Pokharel issued the order on Thursday following a petition filed by Bhatt’s father, Chaturbhuj Bhatt.
The court has directed the opposing parties, including the Special Court and the Nepal Police Central Investigation Bureau, to submit a written response within three days. The order requires the respondents to clarify why a habeas corpus order should not be issued, with responses to be submitted through the Office of the Attorney General.
Additionally, the court has ordered that the pending cases against Deepak Bhatt, registered as 083-RE-0021 and 083-RE-0022, be presented alongside this petition for review. Deepak Bhatt is currently held at Dillibazar Prison pending trial in a money laundering case, following an order from the Special Court.
