KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office in Kathmandu has formed a seven-member committee to investigate the bus fire incident that occurred in Tripureshwor. The committee, led by Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Gaihre, is tasked with submitting a report within seven days.
Chief District Officer Ishwor Raj Poudel stated that the probe team includes Deputy Superintendent of Police Naresh Singh from the Kalimati police circle, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Kumar Bhatta from the Valley Traffic Police Office, Suresh KC from the National Investigation Department, and representatives from transport associations and labor organizations. The committee will examine evidence, CCTV footage, and the background of the driver, Dawa Lama.
The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 10:47 a.m. after a dispute arose between the driver of the Riddhi Siddhi Yatayat bus, bearing registration number Ba.5 Kha 4274, and traffic police over an alleged traffic violation. Following the dispute, the bus was parked in a designated bay, where it was subsequently set on fire. The 25-year-old driver sustained critical injuries in the incident. Medical Director Nijina Tamrakar at Kirtipur Burn Hospital reported that approximately 95 percent of the driver’s body was burned.
The committee is mandated to analyze the timeline of events, review the driver’s mobile phone data and call logs, and interview witnesses to determine the cause of the fire. The findings will also include recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future. Separately, the Valley Police Office has also established a five-member committee led by SSP Ramesh Basnet to investigate the incident.
