KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa and leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala held discussions aimed at resolving internal party disputes and maintaining unity.

According to sources close to Koirala, the leader expressed concern that the country, democracy, and the Congress party are currently in a difficult position and urged Thapa to prevent any potential party division.

Koirala emphasized that as general secretary, it is Thapa’s responsibility to unite the party, adding that he does not seek any specific position for himself. Quoting Koirala, sources stated, ‘If Congress divides, where will the country, democracy, and the party end up? You are the general secretary, fix it. The party must be united, I do not need any position.’ Koirala suggested that if necessary, the party should be willing to postpone the general convention to ensure unity.

In response, Thapa stated that he is aware of his responsibility to unite the party and is prepared to move forward by maintaining cohesion. He indicated that he is willing to even postpone ward-level conventions if that is required to resolve internal issues. ‘I am responsible for uniting the party. I am ready to postpone the ward conventions to ensure the party moves forward together. I will hold discussions,’ Thapa said.
