Snowfall in Korala border, caution advised for transport

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Snowfall has been reported in the Korala border area in northern Mustang since Friday. The snowfall, accompanied by light rain, has affected daily life in the high-altitude region.

Santosh Basyal, information officer at the District Police Office in Mustang, confirmed that snowfall is ongoing in the Korala region. Given the weather forecast, authorities have urged commuters and drivers to exercise extreme caution while operating vehicles in the area.

Following a special weather bulletin issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, which identified Gandaki Province as being at risk of heavy rainfall, travel restrictions have been imposed. Traffic on the national pride project, the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, is prohibited during nighttime hours from Sept. 24 to Sept. 27.

The weather conditions are attributed to the influence of westerly winds, which have caused light rain in various parts of Mustang and triggered snowfall in the high-altitude areas.
