KATHMANDU: After the roadway subsided at Krishnabhir, Dhading along the Prithvi Highway, it disrupted major transportation to the federal capital, Kathmandu. The road subsidence prompted the authorities to re-route the transportation of truckloads and passengers.
With this, around 88,000 cylinders of cooking gas have been brought to Kathmandu via alternative routes in the last three days alone. As said by Nepal Oil Corporation (NoC), 87,877 cylinders of LP gas were brought to Kathmandu from September 3 to September 6 by 18 different companies. The cylinders were bottled in the industries located out of Kathmandu Valley- Bara, Parsa, Makawanpur, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Dhanusha and Mahottari districts.
NOC spokesperson Manoj Thakur said the supplies of petroleum products and LP gas into the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas continue through alternative routes even after the disruption in the major highway.
On August 30, NOC fuel tankers and gas bullets failed to proceed ahead following the highway disruption at Krishnabhir on the Prithvi Highway due to the soil erosion by the Trishuli River. Immediately after the disruption, the NOC made arrangements to bring gas cylinders from Terai to Kathmandu using an alternative routes.
The gas refilling industries have been instructed to regularize refilling and transportation even on public holidays to facilitate the supply chain.
