KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina held a courtesy meeting with South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Tae-young at the ministry on Friday.
The discussion focused on bilateral relations, rescue and rehabilitation efforts for victims of the Bhotekoshi floods, and potential cooperation in information technology, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence.
Minister Timilsina expressed gratitude for South Korea’s support and sympathy during the disaster caused by the Bhotekoshi floods.
He acknowledged the deployment of the Korean disaster management team for search and rescue operations and thanked the Korean government for its commitment to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. The minister emphasized the need to further strengthen the friendly relations between the two nations based on mutual respect and cooperation.
Ambassador Park assured that South Korea would continue its support for rescue and rehabilitation in the flood-affected areas. He expressed concern over the safety of Korean citizens affected by the disaster, noting that the Korean security team has successfully rescued 10 individuals. However, he added that nine Korean citizens working at the Upper Trishuli-1 project site remain out of contact.
During the meeting, Ambassador Park also briefed the minister on the 12th Global ICT Leadership Forum scheduled to be held in South Korea starting Sept. 30. Organized by the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT and coordinated by the National Information Society Agency, the forum will facilitate high-level discussions on cooperation and future strategies regarding information technology and artificial intelligence.
