KATHMANDU: Speaker DP Aryal has dismissed allegations that the parliamentary session was terminated to facilitate his upcoming foreign trip. Aryal is scheduled to depart on Sunday to attend the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Addressing a press conference on Friday, the Speaker clarified that the visit is not for leisure but to participate in a significant global forum. ‘It is a conference of speakers and lawmakers from across the world, and its dignity and importance are truly significant. This is my first visit,’ he said. Responding to reports suggesting that he closed the House to travel abroad, Aryal thanked the media for the criticism, noting that it provided him with an opportunity to clarify his position.

Aryal stated that he intends to highlight the recent disasters experienced by Nepal during the assembly. He emphasized that the forum serves as an opportunity to explain to the international community that Nepal has suffered significant losses due to climate change despite having a negligible role in global carbon emissions. ‘As the Prime Minister put it in his speech in New York, similarly, I will put it to the speakers and MPs of the world,’ he added.
