KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has dismissed a writ petition filed against former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana. A constitutional bench of the Supreme Court issued the order to dismiss the petition.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma and including justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi, Saranga Subedi and Binod Sharma, delivered the verdict.
With this court order, the path is now clear for the former chief justice to receive benefits, including his pension. A writ had been filed seeking to block the privileges entitled to a former chief justice, arguing that although the impeachment motion was not passed by parliament, the impeachment process against him remained ongoing. Following the dismissal of the petition by the constitutional bench, Rana is now eligible to receive the benefits designated for a former chief justice.
