KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office in Syangja has issued a high alert following a forecast of heavy rainfall by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
The department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in the district from Thursday until Sunday, Oct. 11.
Due to the continuous downpour, there is an increased risk of flooding, inundation, erosion, and landslides. The administration has advised residents to avoid visiting riverbanks and coastal areas to ensure their safety.
Administrative officer Rajendra Prasad Chapagain issued a notice urging the public to refrain from activities such as fishing in rivers, swimming, collecting debris swept away by floods, grazing cattle, or playing outdoors during this period.
Parents have been specifically asked to keep a close watch on their children. Residents living in vulnerable coastal areas have been advised to make necessary preparations and move to safer locations.
Furthermore, the administration has cautioned the public to avoid staying near trees, towers, or open hills to protect themselves from lightning strikes and to exercise extreme caution while traveling. Rainfall has been reported in various parts of Syangja since last night.
