KATHMANDU: A task force dedicated to the preservation of print media has submitted a memorandum to CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, requesting the government not to reduce the budget allocated for public welfare advertisements.
Representatives of the task force met with Chairman Oli at the UML central office in Chyasal on Friday to highlight the challenges currently faced by print media outlets. The delegation stated that the financial condition of the print industry is weakening, and any reduction in public welfare advertisement funds would directly impact the regular publication of newspapers and the job security of journalists.
The task force, formed by the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Valley Province Committee, urged the government to maintain the existing public welfare advertisement support to ensure the protection and promotion of the sector. During the meeting, coordinator Damodar Dawadi and other representatives discussed the current state of print media, the prevailing economic crisis, and the policy measures required for the sustainability of the communication sector.
In response, Chairman Oli expressed his support for press and expression freedom, as well as the continuation of public welfare advertising schemes.
