A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The government is to create a task force aimed at promoting medical service tourism, with the objective of transforming the nation into a regional ‘medical hub’.

During a meeting convened at the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers on Thursday, it was decided to initiate the formation of a task force dedicated to the development and promotion of medical services tourism and to commence work promptly.

The meeting was attended by secretaries from relevant ministries, as well as directors and representatives from private hospitals, and was chaired by the Prime Minister’s health advisor, Prof Dr Jagdish Prasad Agarwal.

Discussions during the meeting focused on organizing medical service tourism for international patients seeking quality and accessible treatment in Nepal.

Topics included the establishment of a necessary regulatory framework, the setting of standards for hospital quality and patient safety, and the provision of medical visas for foreign patients and their companions.

The advancement of medical service tourism is expected to not only generate foreign currency but also diminish the necessity for Nepali citizens to seek treatment abroad, thereby enhancing specialist services within the country.

To position Nepal as a trustworthy destination for medical services tourism, the government has prioritized essential policy and institutional reforms.
