HUMLA: Vehicular movement obstructed for quite a while has resumed on the Karnali Corridor today. The roadway was collapsed and obstructed at various places in the district due to incessant rainfall.
The Hilsa-Simkot Road Project worked continuously to resume the traffic, according to chief of the road project, Bel Bahadur Nepali. Light vehicles are allowed operating since Friday afternoon.
Many passengers and vehicles were stranded midway due to road blockage triggered by the rainfall.
Project chief Nepali further informed that efforts were on to allow the heavy vehicles by removing the obstructions at the earliest.
With the present progress, vehicles coming to Humla via Surkhet-Nepalgunj are able to reach the district headquarters, Simkot.
“However, the road from Simkot to Hilsa, a border area to China, has not yet come into operation. As the road clearance and repair are going on in the obstructed section, it will also come into operation as soon as possible,” he said.
The local government is also working actively to bring the rural roads disrupted by the rainfall into operation with the mobilization of necessary manpower and equipment.
Earlier, a meeting of District Disaster Management Committee on Thursday had directed the related bodies to immediately clear the road obstructions and resume transportation.
With the Karnali Corridor becoming operational, it has been easy to transport food, daily essentials and other materials to Humla from outside districts. However, it will take some time for smooth traffic in all areas of the district until the Simkot-Hilsa section is fully working.
