KATHMANDU: Authorities have suspended transport services across 25 districts in western Nepal for two days due to the risk of heavy rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority issued a notice on Friday evening ordering the halt of all vehicular movement in these areas.
The affected districts span the Karnali, Sudurpashchim, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces. According to the authority, these regions are expected to experience intense precipitation throughout Friday and Saturday, necessitating the complete restriction of traffic to ensure public safety.
Furthermore, the authority has identified 30 additional districts where heavy rainfall is likely. These areas, which include districts across five provinces excluding Koshi and Madhesh, are subject to night-time travel restrictions. For daytime operations, the authority has empowered local monsoon response command posts to evaluate conditions and decide whether vehicle movement can safely continue.
Meanwhile, 22 other districts-including those in Koshi, Madhesh, and the Makwanpur and Sindhuli districts of Bagmati province-are expected to see moderate rainfall. Residents in these regions have been advised to remain alert and exercise caution.
