KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University has donated Rs 92.5 million to support the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of citizens affected by the Bhotekoshi floods. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa handed over the cheque for the donation to Minister for Education and Sports Sasmita Pokharel at the ministry on Wednesday.
According to the university, the funds were collected by deducting portions of salaries and allowances from officials, faculty, and staff, and deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. The university stated that the contribution aims to support relief and rehabilitation efforts following the loss of life and property caused by floods in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan.
To raise the funds, the Vice-Chancellor, Rector, and Registrar each contributed one month’s salary. Professors and equivalent administrative staff contributed 10 days of their monthly salary, while assistant professors, deputy administrators, branch officers, and instructors contributed seven days of pay. Additionally, office assistants and equivalent staff contributed five days of salary, and non-classified staff contributed two days of pay. The decision to deduct the funds from staff salaries was made during a recent meeting of the university’s executive council.
