KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man on charges of defrauding individuals of Rs 13.93 million by showing them a yellow metal resembling gold.
Anish Thapa, a resident of Siddhicharan Municipality-1 in Okhaldhunga, was apprehended by a team from the District Police Range on Saturday from a guesthouse located in Tokha Municipality-9. Thapa was previously serving a sentence for a rape conviction at Nakkhu Prison and had escaped from custody on Sept. 10, 2025.
In a separate incident, police arrested Yubraj Ghatani, a resident of Chaurideurali Rural Municipality-3 in Kavrepalanchok, on suspicion of involvement in illegal hundi transactions. He was found in possession of Rs 1.375 million in cash, for which the source could not be verified.
Police stated that he was intercepted while riding a scooter towards Kesharmahal, where the cash was discovered during a search.
