Two arrested with Rs 2.14 million in unexplained cash in Hetauda

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals in Hetauda after discovering Rs 2.14 million in cash for which they could not provide a legal source. The suspects were apprehended during a vehicle inspection at the Chaukitol slope along the Hetauda-Bhimphedi road section.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Kafle of the District Police Office, Makwanpur, the seizure occurred on Monday evening at approximately 7:35 p.m. A mobile team from the Armed Police Force, Nepal No. 14 Battalion Headquarters, discovered the cash while inspecting an Isuzu D-Max vehicle, registered as Lumbini Province 01-001 Cha 0209, which was traveling from Birgunj toward Hetauda.

The authorities recovered the total sum of Rs 2.14 million in 500 and 1,000 rupee denominations. The suspects have been identified as 40-year-old Singhram Rumba from Raksirang Rural Municipality-1, Makwanpur, and 32-year-old Bijay Khati from Nilkantha Municipality-8, Dhading. In addition to the cash and the vehicle, police seized an Apple iPhone, a Samsung smartphone, and one standard mobile phone.

The arrested individuals and the confiscated items were handed over to the District Police Office, Makwanpur, for further investigation. Officials confirmed that the Makwanpur District Court has granted a 15-day remand to investigate the case under the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058.
