KATHMANDU: Megan Bouldin, the US chargé d’affaires, met Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel on Thursday to discuss bilateral ties and US assistance for Nepal’s disaster preparedness and recovery from the devastating August floods.
During the meeting, Bouldin expressed condolences for those killed in the disaster and sympathy for the families of missing Nepali Army personnel.
She also highlighted US plans to provide more than USD 150 million worth of American-made helicopters, drones and riverboats to strengthen Nepal’s disaster-response capabilities. Deliveries are scheduled to begin next year.
The equipment will support search and rescue, medical evacuation and emergency response operations. It will supplement USD 38 million worth of M28 Skytruck aircraft donated by the United States last fall, which have supported relief operations.
