Vegetable prices soar in Kalimati market with sharp rise in long beans

KATHMANDU: Vegetable prices have surged significantly at the Kalimati fruit and vegetable market, according to the daily price list released by the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market Development Board on Monday. The price of long beans increased by Rs 50 per kilogram in a single day.

Data from the board shows the wholesale price of long beans has reached Rs 95 per kilogram, compared to Rs 47 previously. Other vegetables, including eggplant, bitter gourd, pointed gourd, and okra, have also seen price hikes of at least Rs 20 per kilogram.

According to Monday’s wholesale price list, local cauliflower is trading at Rs 110 per kilogram, while long eggplant is Rs 65, bitter gourd is Rs 95, pointed gourd is Rs 110, and okra is Rs 75 per kilogram. These figures represent a sharp increase compared to Sunday’s market rates.

Additionally, both large Nepali tomatoes and large Indian tomatoes are priced at Rs 110 per kilogram. Other staples include local cabbage at Rs 75, red potatoes at Rs 57, Indian dry onions at Rs 95, and local carrots at Rs 130 per kilogram.

The board noted that these figures represent wholesale prices. Retail prices at local markets are expected to be higher.
