KATHMANDU: A large male wild elephant was found dead on Sunday morning in Jirayat Tole, Bagmati Municipality-4, Sarlahi. The carcass was discovered in a vegetable field near the Brahmasthan Community Forest, causing concern among local residents.
Acting Mayor of Bagmati Municipality, Krishna Lama, confirmed the discovery of the elephant. Following the report, a team from the Division Forest Office in Sarlahi was immediately dispatched to the site, according to division chief Binod Singh. The office is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
A joint team from the Division Forest Office and Parsa National Park is examining the site, the animal’s body, and the surrounding environment to determine the cause of death.
Wildlife experts and technicians are working to verify whether the death was natural or caused by human activity, such as poisoning, electrocution, or disease.
Wild elephants have been frequently sighted in the forest areas of Sarlahi in recent years. These movements often lead to human-wildlife conflict as the animals enter settlements and agricultural fields.
Authorities stated that the exact age of the elephant and the definitive cause of death will only be confirmed after the ongoing technical investigation is completed.
