KATHMANDU: A herd of wild elephants destroyed two houses in Pillari Phanta, located in Shuklaphanta Municipality-8 of Kanchanpur district. According to local resident Niraj Japrel, the elephants damaged the homes belonging to Surya Chaudhary and Mahesh Nepal.
The herd is currently reported to be in the nearby Baijanath Community Forest. Residents are living in fear after the animals entered the settlement and caused structural damage to the properties.
Laxmi Raj Joshi, a forest officer at the Division Forest Office in Kanchanpur, stated that monitoring has been increased in the area in coordination with the local administration. Efforts are underway to drive the elephants away, with coordination ongoing between the Shuklaphanta National Park and local security agencies.
