KATHMANDU: Over 250 people have lost their lives and thousands of families have been affected by more than 5,000 disaster incidents across Nepal between April 14, 2026 and August 21, 2026, according to official data.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), a total of 5,014 natural and non-natural disaster events occurred nationwide during this four-month period.
The incidents resulted in 250 deaths, left eight people missing, injured 1,607 individuals, and directly impacted 6,272 households.
Fire incidents accounted for the highest number of occurrences at 1,136, followed by 1,011 landslides and 1,010 snakebite cases.
The authority also recorded 480 high-wind events, 320 heavy rainfall incidents, 273 floods, and 245 lightning strikes.
Other recorded events included 272 wild animal attacks, 191 forest fires, 59 cases of altitude sickness, four earthquakes, four hailstorms, two avalanches, and one boat capsize.
In a single 24-hour window updated at 11:00 AM on August 21, the authority logged 33 disaster incidents that caused one death, left one person missing, injured 23, and affected 145 individuals.
These recent incidents resulted in an estimated financial damage of Rs 972,000 and temporarily blocked roadways in two locations.
