KATHMANDU: The faction of former Nepali Congress (NC) president Sher Bahadur Deuba has approached the Supreme Court, seeking an interim order to suspend preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention.
NC leader Min Bishwakarma said separate writ petitions were filed at the apex court on behalf of Deuba and former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka. Lawyers representing the two leaders submitted the petitions.
The petitioners have requested the court to stop the convention process until the ongoing jurisdictional dispute is resolved. The Deuba faction has argued that preparations for the General Convention should not proceed while the dispute remains pending, especially after the Supreme Court permitted the case to be reviewed.
The Nepali Congress has scheduled its 15th General Convention for October.
The move comes as tensions within the party continue to deepen. The Deuba faction has opposed Gagan Thapa’s leadership and is calling for the General Convention to be held under the existing party leadership.
