PALPA: The District Administration Office, Palpa, has intensified market monitoring ahead of the upcoming festive season, warning of strict action against black-marketing, artificial shortages, overpricing and consumer fraud.
The administration said demand for goods and services typically rises sharply during festivals, increasing the risk of market irregularities and practices that could harm consumers. Businesses and consumers have been urged to remain alert and comply with prevailing laws.
Assistant Chief District Officer Shiva Raj Sedhain said the administration has stepped up market inspections to protect consumer interests. He reiterated that businesses found engaging in black-marketing, creating artificial shortages or charging excessive prices would face strict action under the law.
The administration has urged producers, transporters, warehouse operators, retailers and service providers to fulfil their legal and ethical responsibilities to protect consumer rights. Businesses have also been instructed to comply with the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, its regulations and the Market Monitoring Directive, 2022.
The administration warned that unfair trade practices prohibited under Section 16(2) of the Consumer Protection Act would not be tolerated. Complaints or violations identified during market inspections will be dealt with in accordance with prevailing laws.
Consumers have also been urged to check prices, quality, weight, standards and expiry dates before purchasing goods and services. They have been advised against unnecessarily stockpiling goods in ways that could contribute to shortages and affect other consumers’ access to essential products.
The administration has appealed to the public to immediately inform the local authorities of black-marketing, excessive pricing, substandard goods or other activities that violate consumer rights.
