A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Nepal Eye Hospital recently conducted a free eye camp at Nakhu Prison, where 1,226 individuals, including inmates, prison staff, and senior citizens, received eye examinations.

The camp specifically tested 907 inmates, identifying various eye conditions such as cataracts and visual impairments. The hospital’s CEO, Dharmaraj Gosain, reported that 20 individuals were diagnosed with cataracts, and 421 received necessary eye medications.

Plans are in place to provide free cataract surgeries for those diagnosed, he said. Additionally, 146 prisoners were given free spectacles and medications to aid their reading and writing, while 92 individuals were referred for further treatment.

The hospital’s technical team also offered valuable information on eye health and care during the event. Agreements have been established with several jails to extend eye treatment services to inmates and staff.

The hospital also organized eye tests at a Gurdwara in Kupandole, where 214 individuals were examined, resulting in eight cataract diagnoses and 100 patients receiving glasses.

Furthermore, a separate eye camp at the Aging Care Centre in Sukedhara examined 105 patients, with nine individuals diagnosed with cataracts and 22 receiving free glasses.
