“Nepal-China collaboration should continue in protection and promotion of human rights”

LALITPUR: Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission, Top Bahadur Magar has expressed the belief that collaboration between Nepal and China should continue for protection and promotion of human rights.

Speaking at an international story-sharing event titled “Xizang Panorama: New Era, New Development” organised jointly by China Society for Human Rights Studies, National Human Rights Commission and Tribhuvan University here today, Chairperson Magar said Nepal and China should continue to exchange experiences, cooperate and collaborate in the implementation of the international standards of human rights.

“NHRC emphasizes on the protection and promotion of human rights of workers going for foreign employment,”, he said and pointed out the need to see development and information technology from the perspective of human rights.

The NHRC Chairperson also expressed happiness over the opportunity to collaborate with the China Society for Human Rights Studies, which had not been possible to date due to various reasons in the past.

Also speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming pointed out the need to give due attention to find ways to work for a prosperous and stronger Nepal, drawing on Xizang’s experience in socio-economic development and grassroots governance. “Together, we can turn development opportunities into tangible cooperation outcomes and bring greater benefits to the people of Nepal and China.”

He also shed light on the multi-dimensional aspects of Nepal-China relations, as well as the development achieved by China including in the IT sector, and about the protection and promotion of human rights.

Press Council Nepal Chairperson Umesh Shrestha has the social media is becoming a major medium of information dissemination in Nepal, with lack of right information becoming a problem and misinformation leading to violation of human rights.

Former Member of NHRC Sushil Pyakurel said human rights are a matter of global concern while former Chair of PCN Nepal Dr Kumar Sharma Acharya shed light on the developments and opportunity, and technology in Xizang.

Speaking at the event, popular cine artist Buddhi Tamang lauded the promotion of culture, traditions and development while maintaining the natural beauty of Xizang, and suggested Nepal could also replicate this good practice.Nepali vlogger Sanken Rai shared about the natural beauty of Xizang including the lakes, as well as the agriculture farms and solar energy production even in such a high altitude.

According to the organizers, the event was organised to facilitate exchange of views and experiences on human rights, promote mutual understanding and further strengthen Nepal-China relations at the people’s level.
