DHAKA: Bangladesh’s government kept fuel prices unchanged for an extended period despite rising global oil prices amid the Middle East conflict while maintaining uninterrupted supplies, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Adviser and PMO spokesperson Mahdi Amin said Monday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon to mark 180 days of the Tarique Rahman government, Amin said Bangladesh did not follow several countries that raised fuel prices as global oil costs increased.
He said the government also took measures to keep essential commodity prices under control during Ramadan and acted against syndicates and artificial price hikes.
Amin said the government had also managed to avoid labor unrest during Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha after a prolonged period of tensions.
He said the government brought workers, employers, trade associations and business groups together to ensure workers received their outstanding wages and bonuses.
The remarks were part of the government’s assessment of its first 180 days in office.
