KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth is set to be conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army by President Ram Chandra Paudel during a special ceremony at Sheetal Niwas later today.
General Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon via Air India for a four-day official visit, marking his first international trip since assuming command of the Indian Army on June 30, 2026.
Leading a five-member delegation that includes his spouse, Komal Seth, he was received at Tribhuvan International Airport by Lieutenant General Pradeep Jung KC and his spouse.
The scheduled conferral continues a unique bilateral tradition established in 1950, where Nepal and India mutually bestow the highest honorary military rank upon each other’s army chiefs.
In line with this tradition, Nepali Army Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel previously received the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army from Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on December 12, 2024.
During his four-day itinerary, General Seth will hold formal bilateral talks with General Sigdel at the Army Headquarters and lay a wreath at the Military Pavilion in Tundikhel.
He is also scheduled to call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who currently oversees the defense portfolio.
According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Nepali Army, these high-level military exchanges play a vital role in strengthening defense cooperation and deepening strategic ties between the two neighboring nations.
