KATHMANDU: The monsoon’s relentless downpours have caused extensive disruption across Nepal, with 19 highways rendered impassable due to floods and landslides, severely impacting transportation.
Nepal Police said that as of Monday evening, efforts had cleared 14 road segments for restricted traffic flow.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, speaking as the spokesperson for Nepal Police, highlighted major routes like Karnali Highway in Kalikot, Madan Bhandari Highway in Surkhet, and sections of the East-West Highway in Kanchanpur among those completely shut down.
In addition, routes such as Rolpa’s Martyr Highway and parts of Ridi-Baglung are inaccessible due to debris.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General Kumar Neupane, spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, reported the successful reopening of a landslide-blocked road in Nagarkot, Changunarayan Municipality-6 of Bhaktapur.
The widespread impact of the monsoon has directly affected roads in 27 districts, highlighting the persistent challenges posed by seasonal weather conditions.
