KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has expressed concern over the way Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki was treated during a recent meeting of the House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Addressing a meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee on Friday, which was also attended by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam, Gurung said that allegations should not be presented as if they were proven facts.
The PAC on Wednesday discussed alleged irregularities in the procurement of uniforms and other supplies for the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF) and election security personnel. Gurung had been invited to participate in the meeting but was absent.
Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, Nepal Police IGP Karki and APF IGP Narayan Datta Paudel attended the committee discussion.
During the proceedings, lawmaker Khagendra Sunar called for a separate investigation into the procurement process and questioned the accountability of officials involved in the purchases.
Gurung said he had reviewed the conduct displayed during the PAC meeting and voiced dissatisfaction over the manner in which the police chief was treated in his absence.
