KATHMANDU: The government is set to conduct a comprehensive review of suggestions and conclusions received from all seven provinces before preparing the draft of the School Education Bill.
Education and Sports Minister Sasmita Pokharel will attend the discussion scheduled for Sunday in Kathmandu, along with representatives of stakeholders from the education sector.
The Ministry of Education had organised education dialogues across all seven provinces to ensure the direct participation of stakeholders in the process of drafting the School Education Bill.
The provincial dialogue began in Biratnagar and concluded in Dhangadhi after consultations were held across all seven provinces. The discussions brought together teachers, students, parents, school management representatives, local government officials, education experts and other stakeholders to examine challenges facing school education and possible reforms.
According to the ministry, the Kathmandu dialogue will be held at Nepal Academy to present and review the suggestions, key issues and conclusions gathered from all seven provinces in an integrated manner.
The discussion will also focus on priority issues that should be incorporated into the draft bill based on recommendations emerging from the provincial consultations.
Key issues raised during the provincial dialogues included teachers’ professional development, school management, student learning outcomes, curriculum and assessment systems, improvement of school quality, and the division of educational responsibilities among the federal, provincial and local governments.
The ministry said it plans to move forward with the draft of the School Education Bill by incorporating recommendations received from all seven provinces as well as additional suggestions emerging from the Kathmandu-level comprehensive discussion.
